The Future of Food: "Eating Education"

Welcome to a moment, ours to share, to pause for The Cause: FOOD. You. Children. Health and happiness. You know; just considering the survival of our species, that's all. Too ambitious a topic? I dunno; seems timely...sigh.
But stay with me, know you're not alone...
I really don't want to bum you out, have an underlying message of hope, but first, a cold, hard look at the truth of our shared reality, a "call to action", if you will:
We can no longer afford to deny it; our well-being is currently imperiled, I'm sorry to say, has been for quite some time. From an industrial perspective, things are just dandy: profits high, trustees happy. From a general health & welfare one, not so much. Constant health and safety regulation roll-backs, along with environmental protections, are shaping a rather dismal economic and health outcomes outlook for us, The Consumer, mindlessly and literally feeding The Machine that is the American Food System, a seemingly hostile landscape for the Average Joe, utterly unsustainable and downright unnatural. It feels like a futile struggle at times, I know; as I try to stay informed and active on the food frontlines, the angrier I get, yearning for blissful ignorance vs. a call to help and be of service... But we must rise. Together. It's the only way we will succeed to have and maintain a decent quality of life.

We have simply got to take matters into our own hands by educating ourselves about the food we eat and are being fed by disinterested economic entities, our sustenance merely a commodity, having little to do with an actual sense of humanity. Our own awareness is the best tool we've got, and the power of the people can, indeed, shift tides, even ones that often feel like tsunamis, calling the shots for us and controlling our choices and consumption, ultimately to our detriment.
But it doesn't have to be this way. There is so much we can do to create positive change for ourselves, individually and collectively. Action, not distraction, will move us forward. Oppression and abuse thrive in an indifferent and apathetic environment. Let's not be part of the problem, whaddya' say? How 'bout we seek out usable factual information and sensible explanations to create rational, practical, creative solutions to all that ails us??

I volunteer to remain vigilant in my fight to continue to learn, educate and inspire.
What are You willing to commit to as part of a growing movement of self-empowerment and systemic improvement? I'll give you a hint for a great first step: it begins in your kitchen. And if you want help, it's out there. And right here. ;)
Let us resolve to seek, together, and we shall find.
Gratefully and intuitively Yours,
Marissa J.
